Survey to look at child care in Yankton

Are working parents of youngsters in Yankton finding the type and quality of child care and early learning they want and need for their children? Help provide the answers by taking this short survey before June 15, 2009. The survey is sponsored by the Yankton Business-Civic Leadership Group and South Dakota Voices for Children and encompasses health, safety, educational programming, availability and, of course, affordability.

Copies of the survey are available at the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Community Library, City Finance Office, Summit Center and Contact Center. Results will give community leaders a better idea of the current state of child care and needs that exist in the Yankton area.

The survey was prompted by research showing that with quality child card and early education, children become productive learners, workers and citizens. That's to their advantage - and to all of society. Research also shows that without quality child care and early education, the part of the brain that controls higher levels of thought and helps curb emotional response may not develop normally.
