Mission Statement – To provide sacks of easy to prepare, nutritious food to be distributed to school age children who are at risk of hunger on the weekends.
Our Services – Because over 1/3 of the children in the Yankton School System are eligible for the Free and Reduced Meal Program the Sack Pack Program is a greatly needed resource in our community.
he program was implemented with the start of the 2009-2010 school year.
At the start of the 2010 school year we served Webster, Lincoln and Stewart Schools. Other schools will be added according to need and as funds are raised.
Our goal is to expand this program to every elementary school in the city of Yankton. Future goals include expanding the Sack Pack program to include the Middle and High School.
Funds for the Sack Pack Program are provided ONLY
through community support
The food chosen is shelf-stable, kid friendly, and easily managed by the child. Food will be packaged in sacks on Wednesday by volunteers and brought to the cooperating schools on Thursday for distribution on Friday. This food will be confidentially given to the child.
Is There a Cost to the School or Family?
NO. The Sack Pack Program is free to the school and families of children in need. The program is supported by donations and sponsorships from the community.
Who is Eligible for the Program?
All students are eligible for this program. Eligibility will be determined by school administration and staff. Contact your Elementary School to see if you qualify. Letters will be sent to parents explaining the program as well as a registration form that must be filled out and returned to the school in order for a student to participate.
