Mission statement  -  The Mission of Special Olympics South Dakota is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children (8 years and older) and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
 

Our services - Special Olympics training and competition is open to every person with intellectual disabilities who is at least eight years of age and who registers to participate in Special Olympics.

New athlete scenarios:

  • Athletes living in towns with community based programs should contact their local program regarding participation information.
  • School aged athletes should inquire within your schools regarding participation.
  • Athletes associated with specific agencies should inquire within your agency as to participation possibilities.
  • If none of the above apply, please contact the State Office for information on how to register as an Independent Athlete.
