United Way and Volunteer Services of Greater Yankton recently made a new addition to their team. Tara Hoxeng, of Yankton, SD, recently accepted the position as the Development and Administrative Coordinator.
Hoxeng recently worked for Child Protection Services with the Department of Social Services in Yankton as a Family Services Specialist. She worked with families of abused and neglected children and helped the families to make changes in the home in order to make children safe and protected. Hoxeng also held this same position in Rapid City, SD prior to moving back to Yankton.
We asked Tara to tell us about herself in her own words.
I have lived here in the Yankton Area since:
I graduated from USD with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2006. I lived and worked in Yankton until 2008. After this time, I moved to New York to nanny until 2010. I wanted to experience big city life for a while and LOVED it! But I missed home and being in a small community. When you move away from your home, family and community, you realize that those are some of the most important parts of life, well at least I did!
Why did you choose your current career path:
I have always wanted to help others around me, even from a very young age. I have always known what I excel at and what I should do in life, and have always sought out to fulfill my dreams!
What inspired you about United Way:
United Way is such an essential part of our community. There are several programs that United Way helps to fund in our community, which are necessary for many individuals. In my recent position with Child Protection Services, I worked with several of United Way’s partner agencies in order to help families to become more independent and to teach them how to thrive on their own. I have always been inspired by the United Way agencies and all that they do for our community. When I heard about this position, as the Development and Administrative Coordinator, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this amazing organization!
What are you most excited about in your new position:
I am most excited about continuing to help individuals and families through my position, and by helping to raise funding for the United Way agencies. I am very excited about new possibilities, the opportunity to work on existing programs, and develop new programs that will continue to meet needs of the Yankton community. Another amazing attribute of the United Way organization is the positive energy, the drive, and the motivation of the Executive Director, Lauren Hanson, the board members, and the partnering agencies. I am so honored and excited to be a part of this wonderful organization!!
Hoxeng began her duties at Development and Administrative Coordinator on June 16, 2014. United Way and Volunteer Services is excited to have Hoxeng join their team just in time for their 2015 Campaign! Be on the lookout for the new pledge cards for the upcoming year of 2015 in the mail!
