United Way Moving To New Location
Published: Wednesday, June 8, 2011 1:15 AM CDT
The Yankton Area United Way and Volunteer Services announced on Tuesday that they will be changing locations at the end of June.
The offices, currently at 231 Broadway Avenue, will be moving to new offices in the Marne Creek Professional Building at 608 West 23rd Street.
“Our lease was up with the current rental and we were looking for a spot that was more accessable for our clients,” explained United Way executive Pam Kettering. “We have so many different agencies and clients coming in and out that parking was always an issue. Because of the limited (parking) in our current location, we chose to look for a new location.”
Kettering said all of the agencies except for Downtown Yankton will move to the site.
These agencies will continue to be consolidated as a Yankton Non-Profit Center at the new location: Big Friend-Little Friend, Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Head Start, Literacy Council, Parents as Teachers, Prairie Hearth, Red Cross, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, Southeast Family Support and United Way and Volunteer Services of Greater Yankton.
“The non-profit center is going to have the west door, so we will all be on the west side of the building,” she said. “One of the niceties of it is, the majority of the offices will have windows. But the biggest advantage is the accessablities. There is disabled parking right outside the door; there is a ramp and stairs to get into the door. It is just more accessable for our clients. Who knows who might be on crutches tomorrow and need easier access?”
People needing the services of these agencies many continue to contact them by phone or at the current Broadway location until approximately June 21. They will be in transition during the last two weeks of June. Beginning July 1, agencies will be open at the new 23rd Street location. Call the specific agency for more detailed information regarding their transition timeline.
“We are working at being available to the community via phone at least throughout the move,” she said. “We will be getting settled as quickly as possible. Hopefully by the end of June, July 1 at the latest, we will be ready to go.”
Kettering said any community members who would like to volunteer to help with the move should contact her at 665-6766.
“We have movers who will help us with the large things, but I am sure the board members and volunteers would always welcome assitance,” she said. “We can put them to work, either packing up boxes or loading them up. We can use their help.”
