Surrounded by the children he works hard to help, Arnie Boschker posed for a picture while being awarded the United Way & Volunteer Services, Volunteer of the Month Award for June 2011.  For the past two years, Arnie has been a helping hand to the Boys & Girls Club of Yankton.  Employed through Experience Works, a community-based organization that helps older adults get the training they need to find jobs in their communities, Arnie was matched up with the local club to perform 20 hours a week of custodial duties.  Arnie’s efforts towards the club and their daily operations have exceeded expectations according to the Boys & Girls Club Director, JD O’Grady.  “Arnie is the type of guy that would do anything to help out.  He will come in on his own time and expense and make needed repairs to the facility. He is a wonderful asset to our organization.”

A strong work ethic comes naturally to this volunteer. “I grew up where you put your full effort into your job”, Arnie says.  “If I see something that needs to be done, I do it.”

Living in Yankton for the past 15 years, Arnie along with his wife Lucy, raise four grandchildren in their home.  His grandchildren, who are active in a variety of sports, Boy Scouts, and other activities in the community, sometimes accompany their grandfather to the club to lend a hand.  “They love coming along with Grandpa to help out.”

Arnie Boschker is a wonderful example of dedicated volunteers who have given their time and efforts to benefit a local program.  When asked why he enjoys his job and volunteer efforts with the Boys & Girls Club, Arnie states, “It is not only a positive and friendly work environment, but they really make a difference in our community.”
