April 2005 - Rex (James) Hausman
Teaching, listening, sharing with youth occupies Rex Hausman's vocational as well as volunteer hours. The April Volunteer of the Month Award was given due to this dedication. Hausman is Practice Teaching, his final graduation requirement for a History Major and an English Minor at USD. His volunteering with youth provided additional experience for his career choice.
On a weekly basis, Hausman is found teaching Family Program and Confirmation classes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Residents at Prairie Home Assisted Living look forward to Hausman's weekly visits. He also sets up for Mass, is a Lector, and is a Eucharistic Minister at the Church and helps with Masses at Majestic Bluffs. It is a small but dedicated Legion to Mary; however Hausman is one of the four that are dedicated to service / outreach to community.
Rex Hausman related that he got started in helping at the church when he heard that people were needed and decided that he was capable of helping out. He shared, "It seemed to be more worth my time and energy than other causes. Kids are wonderful! It's a lot easier to volunteer for other things once you have taken that first step. It is not very difficult to spend an hour to talk to kids."
Rex Hausman has selected youth as a high priority in his life. Sharing time and talents with youth impacts the whole community. He is Making A Difference.
