April 2007 - Harold Diede

Harold Diede, April Volunteer of the Month, keeps people and agencies connected. His expertise with computers and his patience in training people to use them correctly is of tremendous value to many.

For over five years, Diede has assisted the Yankton Senior Citizens Center with their computers. During this time he has networked the staff computers as well as those in the computer room. He has set up the staff computers to "talk" to each other and share information. A troubleshooting wiz, Diede is determined to address the problem and solve the issue. Due to his efforts the Senior Center enjoys a print server, wireless network, revised computer instruction manuals and reliable providers. When he is not fixing a computer problem, he can be found creating and updating the Web page for the Center.

Seniors get one-on-one tutoring for teaching the basics to the more complex spreadsheet programs. Diede also has taught basis operation and Word computer classes for the seniors. Due to his tutelage many of the seniors now email their families and can connect with the internet.

Diede also shares his expertise with other non-profits. Frequently he stops at the Non-Profit Center to check on the working conditions of the computers for the United Way & Volunteer Services, Big Friend-Little Friend, Just For Kids, Literacy Council, Parents As Teachers, Red Cross, RSVP, Habitat For Humanity and Historic Downtown Yankton. With this number of agencies, computers and various computer skill levels, he spends considerable time and effort keeping everyone connected and operating. Whatever the problem or level of operator frustration, Diede comes to the rescue to solve the issue.

Making A Difference and connection - one computer and operator at a time - while saving many organizations down time and expense, Harold Diede has generously shared his time, talents and treasures.
