January 2006 - Don and Lucille Musil
Don and Lucille Musil, the United Way Volunteers of the Month for January, keep busy between the Senior Citizens Center and Sacred Heart Parish.
The Musils have helped at almost all of the brunches and pancake suppers, as well as other special events where food is served, at the Senior Citizens Center. Lucille likes to do the serving and Don helps out by cleaning and resetting tables. He also enjoys taking pictures of special events, and then donating them to the Center, which he recently did at the annual picnic with Blossom and Friends. They have also held the title of Volunteer of the Month for the Center.
The Musils also keep busy with Sacred Heart Parish. Don photographs various church events and has ushered at funerals for the last ten years. Lucille volunteered the same amount of time as the Funeral Committee Coordinator for the Parish. Her duties have included ordering the food and helping to prepare and serve the meals. She also visits and takes the Eucharist to shut-ins. She also made many meals for the Rectory building crew.
Don keeps the Knights of Columbus stocked with non-perishables, takes Mission Hill's recyclable newspaper collection to the Yankton Boy Scouts once a month, and closes the Mission Hill U.S. Post Office at a later time of 7:00 PM for the residents' convenience.
Lucille is well- known for her pie and jelly making. She has given many of these to soup kitchens, bazaars, and unsuspecting recipients as gifts.
Don and Lucille Musil like to keep busy and help others. As Sr. Kevin Irwin wrote, "They share their garden products with many people. They volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in several ways. They are always willing to help with various projects at the church. And they do all of these things with a smile."
