June 2006 - Kevin Frey

Kevin Frey, United Way & Volunteer Services' June Volunteer of the Month, is a Big Friend. Frey has been a Big Friend for two years and has had two Little Friends during that time. His first Little Friend was in high school and they had a great relationship but he moved away so Frey sought another match. His second and current Little Friend is younger and they find a lot of activities to do together.

Frey and his Little Friend spend approximately two hours together every Monday. They play soccer, watch cartoons, go swimming, play video games, go to the arcade and play with Frey's dog. Frey also attends a few of the monthly Big Friend-Little Friend Fun Functions with his Little Friend.

Not only does Kevin Frey volunteer his time with the Big Friend-Little Friend program, he also donates gift certificates and pizza discounts through his pizza business. He generously gives prizes for the annual Bowl-A-Thon. When Frey went on vacation, his Little Friend was not far from his min - he brought his Little Friend a tee shirt and shared stories with him.

"Kevin Frey is a great asset to our program and demonstrates qualities we look for in Big Friends," states Stacy Winterringer, Big Friend-Little Friend Director. Frey encourages others to be a Big Friend. He said, "Give it a try! It only takes about two hours a week. It doesn't take much. It's pretty easy!"

Making a difference in a child's life - it does not get more important than that!
