June 2008 - Lisa Barger
If it keeps youth active and learning, Lisa Barger is helping where needed. For over fifteen years once a month, Barger has been meeting and leading the approximately 25 Happy Go Lucky 4-H Club members. Besides the monthly meetings, she works at the Soup Kitchens, judges at Achievement Days and hosts workshops for various projects. The club recently served coffee and doughnuts to the participants in the Tractor Parade.
Barger has volunteered for Baseball Association tournaments the past four years as well as assisting with their fundraising for the improved facility. She was also a Team Parent for her child's softball team that involved assorted tasks plus making lots of phone calls. Hockey has a huge need for volunteer involvement for cleaning and opening and closing the facility, selling concessions as well as supporting her sons that are playing. She said, "It is a lot of work for parents, but so worth it!"
As Co-President of Friends of Sacred Heart School she promoted the focus of Faith Family Fitness. Working with the physical education teachers the past two years, family health education has been emphasized and implemented with activities including bike rides. Fundraising for teacher training has been also accomplished with Barger's leadership. Sponsoring BINGO at Link Auditorium September through April provides funding for workshops and staff development for the whole staff.
Barger has been a committee chair for the St. Benedict Church Bazaar as well as chairing two committees for the annual Gala. All of the teachers get involved with their classes' Gala project that is then donated. Barger commented that "when a teacher works for a private school it is like a call to duty. Volunteering is what I value in life - helping children, school - just helping people."
