March 2007 - United Methodist Women
The March Volunteers of the Month, Yankton United Methodist Women, are comparable to the "battery bunny" - they keep going and going and going strong! With the leadership of Mary Alice Halverson, this group of women has provided activities and treats for the adult patients on the Acute Care units at the Human Services Center for over 40 years.
When this relationship began, the patients were transported to the church; however for many years the women have been packing up their supplies and food to take to the patients. Every month there are six to nine women gathering craft materials, games, vacation pictures, seasonal projects or numerous other activities that would provide interaction and entertainment.
The United Methodist Women are also present for the Human Service Center Arts In The Park to assist with the various booths. Tara Gill, Volunteer Coordinator, remarked that the patients greatly appreciate the fellowship with the women. "These ladies make a world of difference with their caring attitudes and smiling faces. They are all a blessing."
