May 2007 - Sean Potas

Sean Potas, May Volunteer of the Month, liberally shares her time to advocate for people in need. She has served as Board of Director President of the Women's/Children's Center for the past five years. During that time she led the Center through the paper work of becoming a separate organization from the Contact Center, advocating for women and children in crisis and establishing outreach offices in neighboring communities.

Mayaworks Program, assisting women in Guatemala through the sale of hand-crafted items, is also a volunteer priority for Potas. This program received first hand attention from Sean when she traveled there two times on mission trips. The profits from this program fund education for young women in Guatemala. Trinity Lutheran Church benefits from her dedication in helping to organize the confirmation program, volunteering for the Christian-based retreat and providing outlets for the Mayaworks products. While serving as a Confirmation Guide for six youth, she assisted the youth with a rummage sale with the proceeds going to a local charity.

Potas shared her volunteer passion with her family through serving together at the Banquet, delivering Meals On Wheels and donating their clothes and toys. When her children were involved in activities, Sean could be found with other parents supporting the organizations. She was very active with the Dance Association, Yankton Area Arts Association and After Prom and Booster Clubs. As a member of the Medical Alliance she organized their serving at the Banquet.

Sean Potas has and continues to share her time and leadership talents in building capacity and outreach with organizations that make a difference in people's lives.
