May 2008 - Myles & Cindy Konopasek
The Konopaseks have shared their time, talents and treasures with people of all ages through their volunteer work. They have touched hearts and lives through church, 4-H, basketball, Kids Hope, Roger Haas tournament, Sertoma, soccer, Jaycees, football and politics.
Myles served double duty as the liaison for Ice Association and the 4-H Leaders as they worked together to build the dual-purpose arena. His four-year role as President of the 4-H Leaders Association led his involvement in fundraising with the Ice Association in a successful effort in raising the dream of an arena into reality. Leading the fifteen members of the Boots & Saddles 4-H Club with Tammy Schanche for the past seven years includes his ties with 4-H.
When Sertoma organized the Fiddlers Contest, Myles chaired the committee for a number of years when it moved from the 4-H building to Cimpl Arena back to the 4-H building. He also assisted building the Club's project of building the Territorial Capitol Replica. Jaycees also benefited from his membership. Serving on the initial Roger Haas Tournament Committee, Myles annually marks his calendar to referee or manage the gym schedule. He also shares his leadership skills with the South Dakota Corn Growers Association.
Cindy shares their horses with children and elderly by giving rides to kids enrolled in the Just For Kids summer program and residents of Walnut Village. While working at the Benedictine Monastery she also brought her horses to the Sisters for rides, pets and hugs. As a Mount Marty College nursing student, she volunteered at the Banquet from time to time. She and her son are now regular workers at the Banquet on the first Thursday of each month. For the past two years she and her daughter have been mentoring a child weekly through Kids Hope. She recently got involved with local politics and will be attending the Republican State and National Convention as a delegate for candidate Ron Paul.
Assisting with their children's activities and volunteering as a family is important to the Konopaseks. Coaching soccer, baseball, flag football or basketball found them allowed them to share time with their children as well as serve as role models. They have also been very involved with youth activities at Calvary Baptist Church serving as youth leaders, teaching the 1st Grade Awana class and assisting where needed. Cindy also volunteered with the Yankton Christian School by leading the chapel time.
Teamwork has been key ingredient for Myles and Cindy Konopasek - with life in general and especially with their volunteering. They have contributed countless hours and boundless energy with a variety of activities as a team and also teaming up with many other generous individuals that continue to make a difference in this community.
