2025 June Volunteer of the Month - Michelle Kral

Michelle Kral has been the “come to the rescue” volunteer for the United Way for the past several years.  Besides volunteering for projects on her own, Michelle has always been the person United Way staff would call when another volunteer could not do it to help with a project, and we would need an extra hand. Michelle would drop everything help with the project with a smile and “let’s get to work” attitude!

Michelle has worked in many United Way projects including the Clothing Closet, Stuff the Bus and Toys for Kids just to name a few.  During each project she works hard and stays to the end to make sure the work is done for the clients that need the services.  All for the purpose of helping those that are less fortunate.

Because of her commitment to serving those that are less fortunate, United Way & Volunteer Services of Greater Yankton was honored to present Michelle Kral with the June 2025 Volunteer of the Month Award.

We asked Michelle to share more about her volunteerism, in her own words:

I have lived in Yankton since 2005

I started volunteering with my parents when I was a kid.

I volunteered at Toys for Kids/Adopt a Family, Stuff the Bus, Yankton Food for Thought, The Clothing Closet, Pathways Shelter for the Homeless, Bridging Yankton, the community holiday feast, and others.

Approximate hours that I volunteer: I do not really track them. If someone asks for help, I will be there if I can. I love helping out.  

Volunteer work is enjoyable because I enjoy seeing the impact these programs have on our community.

My best volunteer experience is helping with United Way’s Holiday Programs.
